Portland Police Make 87 Traffic Stops During Weekend Crackdown On Dangerous Driving
Portland police made 87 traffic stops, arrested four people and recovered a stolen vehicle during a weekend enforcement operation targeting illegal street racing, street takeovers and other dangerous driving, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The Portland Police Bureau said officers conducted the special operation Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6, across the city. Officers focused on suspected illegal street racing, reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants and other hazardous behavior.
Seven vehicles eluded officers during the operation. Police said one of those vehicles was estimated to be traveling at 150 mph.
Four vehicles were towed, according to the bureau.
Police also monitored areas around Skyline Boulevard and Barnes Road after receiving community complaints about dangerous driving. The bureau said officers did not observe illegal street racing or street takeover activity in those areas Saturday night.
The operation included officers from the bureau’s North, East and Central precincts, as well as its Canine Unit, Detective Division and Specialized Resources Division. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Transit Division and Air Support Unit also assisted.
PPB said it plans to continue enforcement targeting illegal street racing, street takeovers, excessive speeding and other dangerous driving as resources allow.
