New grand jury subpoenas sent in investigation into Trump-Russia probe
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Justice Department is escalating a yearlong investigation into an alleged conspiracy by intelligence officials who investigated President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.
New subpoenas are being issued to former government officials, requiring testimony before a federal grand jury in Florida. Investigators have focused heavily on the government’s response to Russian interference in the 2016 election and the intelligence assessment that Moscow sought to help Trump.
Former CIA Director John Brennan has been identified by his lawyers as a target of the investigation. He has denied wrongdoing.
The probe is being led in part by former Reagan-era prosecutor Joe diGenova, who has publicly supported Trump’s claims that the intelligence community conspired against him.
Previous investigations found errors in the Trump-Russia probe but did not find evidence of criminal wrongdoing by senior law enforcement officials or an anti-Trump conspiracy.
It remains unclear whether the investigation will result in criminal charges.
