Troutdale Man Accused Of Crashing Into A Southeast Portland Business, Burglarizing A Home, And Hiding A Gun
PORTLAND, Ore. – A Troutdale man is accused of crashing a vehicle into a Southeast Portland business, running away from the scene, breaking into a nearby home, and hiding a gun in a mailbox.
Portland Police says officers responded to the Sherwin-Williams on Southeast Division Street around 4:45 on Tuesday afternoon.
While officers set up a perimeter, a 9-1-1 call was received that a burglary was in progress.
Officers located 55-year-old John Graff in the home’s basement and took him into custody.
Police say he was then connected to the crash and a gun that was hidden in a nearby mailbox.
Graff faces four counts of reckless endangerment, felon in possession of a firearm, first-degree burglary, third-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, failure to perform the duties of a driver and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
“This incident could have had far more serious consequences,” Police Chief Bob Day said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the swift response by our officers, the quick actions of the resident who called 911, and the coordinated efforts that led to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of a loaded firearm before anyone else was harmed.”
