15-year-old boy drowns at Blue Lake Regional Park
TROUTDALE, Ore. — A 15-year-old boy drowned Tuesday evening at Blue Lake Regional Park in Troutdale, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple 911 callers reported around 5:40 p.m. that a swimmer had gone underwater and did not resurface. Community members were already searching the water when deputies, firefighters and rescue swimmers arrived.
The boy was found underwater about 75 feet from shore at approximately 6:25 p.m. Medics performed lifesaving measures for 45 minutes before he was pronounced dead.
The teen was visiting the lake with his family and was not wearing a life jacket, the sheriff’s office said. His name has not been released.
The sheriff’s office said it was the third drowning in Multnomah County in 10 days. Officials are urging people recreating near the water to wear life jackets. Loaner life jackets are available at Blue Lake and several other Metro parks.
